ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The Intermediate Critical Care Unit is seeking a skilled ICU Registered Nurse to provide specialized care for critically ill patients. The ideal candidate will possess recent ICU experience and demonstrate an ability to handle a variety of patient diagnoses, such as DKA, Sickle Cell, Sepsis, Respiratory Distress, Pneumonia, Heart Failure, and Stroke symptoms.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage patient care in the ICU setting.
• Initiate and titrate cardiac drips as required.
• Utilize rapid response teams effectively.
• Administer and manage feeding tubes and PCA systems.
• Implement heparin protocols and care for CVA patients.
• Provide ventilator care and wound management, including the use of Wound Vac systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience.
• Certifications: ACLS, BCLS required; NHISS preferred.
• Strong skills in IV starts, telemetry, and cardiac telemetry.
• Ability to care for ventilated patients and manage vasoactive drips.

Scheduling and Shift Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
• 36 hours per week are typically offered.
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum of 4 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.
• Floating between ICU and Med/Surg as needed (1:6 ratio).
• Missed shifts should be made up within the same week if possible; time may be added to the contract end to compensate for missed shifts.

Patient Care and Unit Details

This unit functions as a Rapid Response RN and employs various specialized equipment, including Bipap, Cpap, and Optiflow systems. Patient ratios are maintained at 1:4.

Additional Information

Unit orientation will consist of 36 hours to ensure all staff are well-prepared for their roles. Required attire includes navy scrubs, or navy and white combination.
