Unit Information:

• Beds: 10 ICU and 4 PCU beds (PCU used only in surge capacity)
• Average Census: 7.3 patients per day
• Patient Ratios: RN: 1:2-3, acuity dependent
• Minimum Experience Required: 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience
• First-Time Travelers: Yes

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

• Sepsis, COPD, CHF, Chest Pain, MI, NSTEMI, Stroke, TIA
• New onset cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled DM and DKA, minor trauma
• ETOH withdrawal, ARDS, Respiratory illnesses – Flu, COVID, PNA

Required Licenses and Certifications:

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Skills Required:

• Stroke experience/NIH assessments
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• ART lines and CVPs, experience with critical care drips
• Chest tubes, PIV starts, TNK administration, vent management
• Trach care, NGT placement, drain/tube management
• PCA pumps, wound care, ability to complete 12-lead EKG
• Medication gtt management including critical care gtts

Support within the Department:

• House Supervisor
• Charge nurse
• Phlebotomy
• IV/VAT Team (dayshift only)
• RT, 24/7
• Hospitalist, 24/7
• Intensivist (Monday-Friday)

Technology/Equipment:

• EMR: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Med dispensing: Omnicell
• Monitors: Phillips

Floating:

Floating may be required within Stanly and regionally, including Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, and ED holds. Travelers will be compensated for travel time between facilities during shifts.

Orientation:

• NEO
• 2-3 days departmental

Scheduling:

• Weekend rotation: at minimum, every other
• No call for Travelers
• Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• RTO: Manager approval
• Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks

• Scrub Color: Navy (No T-shirts, undershirts must be white or navy, no Crocs allowed)
• Parking: Free
