ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive care for patients from adults to geriatrics with various critical conditions. This role requires a high level of clinical competency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience; 1st time travelers are accepted.
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH.
  • Familiarity with adult and geriatric patient populations.

Clinical Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will manage patients presenting with conditions including but not limited to:

  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
  • Sepsis
  • Stroke
  • Acute Myocardial Infarction (STEMI)
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Post-operative complications
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB)
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbation
  • Encephalopathy
  • Liver failure
  • Drug overdose
  • End-stage renal disease (ESRD) on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

Work Environment

The ICU consists of 24 rooms with an average daily census of 19 patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2-3, and nurses should be prepared for the possibility of taking on a third patient.

Shift and Scheduling

  • Shift: Day shifts, 3x12 hours (07:00 - 19:00).
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend unless otherwise specified.
  • Floating: Nurses may be required to float within the facility as necessary.
  • Compliance: Full compliance is required to ensure timely start; non-compliance may result in a delay of 2 weeks due to the orientation schedule.

Holiday Requirements

Travelers may be expected to work major holidays as follows:

  • If one major holiday falls within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work.
  • If two major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work both.
  • If three major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work two.

Major holidays include:

  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving/Black Friday
  • Christmas Eve/Christmas Day
  • New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day

The following systems are utilized within the unit:

  • Pyxis
  • Epic
  • SBAR

Scrub Color

The designated scrub color is navy blue.

Notes

Local candidates are welcomed and will receive the same compensation package. The number of Non-Billable Orientation (NBO) hours is determined by the length of the contract.
