Prime Staffing is seeking a travel nurse RN First Assist for a travel nursing job in San Luis Obispo, California.
Job Description & Requirements

RNFA – Perioperative Services
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 5×8s
Shift: Rotating — 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, or 10:00 AM–6:30 PM
Call: Required — at least 2 times per week and every 3rd weekend
Epic Experience: Required
Position Overview
The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) provides advanced perioperative nursing care and assists the primary operating surgeon during surgical procedures. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care; coordinating and delegating care; and promoting effective collaboration among the surgical team.
The RNFA functions within facility policies and established nursing standards and reports to the Director of Perioperative Services. This role requires strong leadership, professionalism, and clinical expertise in the perioperative setting.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of RNFA experience
- Minimum 3 years of scrub and circulating experience in an acute care facility
- Experience with primary spine, orthopedic, and robotic surgeries
- Epic experience required
- Annual surgeon review required
- Completion of an approved RNFA didactic course required
Licenses & Certifications
- Active RN license in the state of practice
- CNOR certification required
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- PALS preferred
- Current Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) required
- AHA BLS/ACLS or approved equivalent as required by facility
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
