Position Overview
Join one of the busiest Endoscopy departments within CommonSpirit and the second-busiest Endoscopy department in CommonSpirit Health California. The RN will provide comprehensive care across all three phases of the procedure, including pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care throughout all 3 phases of Endoscopy procedures
- Manage recovery for patients receiving MAC and procedural sedation
- Administer and monitor procedural sedation as required
- Serve as the circulating RN during MAC cases
- Work alongside a circulator and sedator during procedural sedation cases
- Assist with bedside procedures in the ER and ICU when needed
- Monitor patients throughout procedures and recovery
- Collaborate closely with physicians, Endoscopy technicians, RTs, and other clinical staff
- Participate in on-call coverage, including weekends and holidays
Common Procedures
- EGD
- Colonoscopy
- ERCP
- Bronchoscopy
- EUS
- PEG procedures
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Endoscopy/GI experience required
- Procedural sedation experience required
- Call experience required
- BLS and ACLS required
- Strong assessment, monitoring, and recovery skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume Endoscopy environment
Department Highlights
- 2 Endoscopy suites
- Approximately 5–25 procedures per day
- Charge Nurse available Monday–Friday
- No floating outside the Endoscopy/GI Lab
- May travel between two campuses located approximately 7 minutes apart
- Department orientation is generally 2–3 days, depending on experience and comfort level
- OR scrubs provided
Schedule & Call
- No block scheduling
- Shift length and start times may vary
- Weeknight call is shared with the department staff
- Weekend call: Typically one 24-hour period from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM
- Holiday call: Rotational; expectation is typically 1 major and 1 minor holiday
- Call response time: 30 minutes
