Description:
Unit is an Endoscopy/Gastrointestinal lab with 3 procedure bays.
The unit performs 15-30 procedures per day.
Certifications required include RN, BLS, ACLS, and a procedural sedation competency test.
GI techs must have BLS certification.
The electronic medical record system is Cerner.
Charge nurse duties are overseen by a supervisor.
On weekends and holidays, only on-call duties are required.
Call shifts are from Monday to Friday, 1500-0700, and Saturday/Sunday, 0700-0700.
Two required on-call shifts during the week and two weekend days per month are mandatory.
Scrub color is provided.
A hospitalist or intensivist is available in-house after hours.
Radiology team is available 24/7.
Pharmacy services are available 24/7.
Shifts are Monday to Friday with 8-hour shifts starting between 0700 and 1000 depending on the case schedule.
Floating to other units is not required.
Floor-specific orientation will last for one week or until the nurse feels comfortable.
Common cases/procedures include ERCP, EGD, PEGs, and all endoscopic scopes.
Nurses may also assist in the operating room for GI procedures and some bronchoscopy cases with respiratory therapy support.
The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled for a 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for assignments less than that.
Charting is done using the Cerner system.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
