Description:
The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver.
They assume responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe.
The nurse provides care to these patients via the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment, instrumentation, and other healthcare team members.
The Registered Nurse is expected to perform their duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by the nursing division.
Reports to the assigned unit director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs assessment and data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner.
Focuses on the physiological, psychological, and cognitive status of patients.
Analyzes assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses.
Identifies appropriate expected outcomes individualized to each patient.
Formulates a goal-directed plan of care, prioritized based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
Identifies patient learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet these needs.
Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
Performs documentation duties that are timely, accurate, and concise.
Evaluates the effectiveness of self, care given by all healthcare team members, and contributes to patient progress toward outcomes.
Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the institution.
Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols.
Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care and decision-making for designated patient populations.
Adheres to all applicable policies and procedures.
Incorporates hourly rounding into daily practice consistently.
Demonstrates awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for professional practices.
Awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function.
Strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skills required by the assigned unit.
Actively participates in staff development activities for nursing personnel and other departments.
Forms and utilizes effective working relationships with all healthcare team members, patients, and significant others.
