About the Role

A community hospital in South Texas is seeking a dedicated, full-time Emergency Department Registered Nurse to join its 24-hour ER team. As a small, community-focused rural hospital, this facility offers the chance to build lasting relationships with patients and colleagues while delivering hands-on, high-impact emergency care. This is a permanent, night-shift position working a predictable 4-on/4-off rotation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, immediate nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of emergent, urgent, and trauma-related conditions.
  • Perform rapid patient assessment, triage, and prioritization in a fast-paced, low-staff rural ER environment.
  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and hospital protocol; monitor for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
  • Initiate and maintain IV access, cardiac monitoring, and other emergency interventions as required.
  • Collaborate closely with ER physicians, LPNs, CNAs, and support staff to coordinate patient care and safe, timely transfers when higher-level care is needed.
  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record.
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication and education to patients and family members during high-stress situations.
  • Respond to Code Blue, trauma, and other emergent hospital-wide events as part of the response team.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and regulatory standards at all times.
  • Support a small-hospital team environment by assisting with department upkeep, supply checks, and cross-coverage as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Current, unencumbered Texas RN license (or active Compact/Multistate RN license).
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department, ICU, or acute care nursing experience preferred; new graduates with strong critical-care clinical rotations will be considered.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at hire.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required within 30 90 days of hire (grace period based on experience).
  • Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within 30 90 days of hire.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required within 60 days 18 months of hire, based on experience level.
  • Comfortable working independently and adapting quickly in a small rural hospital with limited on-site specialty support.
