Job Summary
Join a leading non-profit health consortium dedicated to serving the health interests of residents across Southeast Alaska. This pivotal role involves developing, implementing, and evaluating a consortium-wide clinical education program for all clinical staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering continuous professional development.
The Clinical Nurse Education Manager will act as an internal training and organizational development consultant, providing essential support services under the direct supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer or designee. This position is critical for maintaining high standards of clinical competency across the consortium, including outlying clinics and remote sites.
A significant component of this role includes overseeing the consortium's trauma registrar program, ensuring regulatory compliance with state requirements, and actively supporting facilities in achieving and maintaining trauma designations. The manager will also lead the clinical education team, partner with site and department managers to identify educational needs, and coordinate specialized training programs, including human patient simulator training and the IHS Emergency Pediatric Hybrid program.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, teach, and evaluate comprehensive clinical education programs for professional and non-professional staff across the consortium.
- Ensure all educational activities align with the organization's mission, goals, values, and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and manage regulatory certifications and competencies, including BLS, PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and NRP.
- Lead the clinical education team in developing and coordinating planned educational programs and opportunities for all nursing staff.
- Oversee the consortium-wide trauma registrar program, working with registrars and coordinators to maintain facility registries and state designations.
- Provide support and guidance to outlying clinics and Wrangell in establishing and maintaining their trauma programs and designations.
- Act as an internal training and organizational development consultant, offering career development resources.
- Plan, implement, coordinate, and administer clinical specialty training programs, including human patient simulator training.
- Supervise the IHS Emergency Pediatric Hybrid program for the consortium, assisting outlying clinics with staff rotation through the simulation lab.
- Research and maintain current regulations and standards relevant to clinical practice areas.
- Collaborate with site and department managers to identify clinical education needs and best practices.
- Lead the development and completion of audits related to clinical education, partnering with leadership to develop action plans.
- Provide coordination for classes requested from outside contract instructors or companies.
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of educational activities to ensure professional development and high-quality, cost-effective healthcare delivery.
- Serve as a liaison for clinical education opportunities provided by the consortium and facilitate communication with community healthcare providers.
- Participate in and apply evidence-based research to improve professional development activities and patient outcomes.
- Attend and actively participate in Nurse Executive Committee meetings.
- Provide guidance and leadership to Clinical Educators in program development and implementation.
- Supervise staff involved in the trauma registrar program and the IHS Emergency Pediatric Hybrid Program.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of professional nursing experience, with a minimum of two (2) years as a staff Registered Nurse in a specialty area (Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics, or Operating Room).
- Three (3) years of professional clinical instructor experience. (Professional clinical instructor experience may substitute for clinical nursing experience on a year-for-year basis).
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- PALS and NRP certifications must be obtained within six (6) months of hire and maintained biannually thereafter.
- Clinical Competency required within three (3) months of hire and every three (3) years.
- Manager Competency required within three (3) months of hire and every three (3) years.
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC instructor certification (or must be obtained within one (1) year after hire).
- Prior Emergency Room/Trauma and/or Remote Rural experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, diagnosis, processes, and procedures applicable to adult, geriatric, and pediatric patient populations.
- Proficiency in developing and facilitating relevant and effective education for adult learners.
- Strong understanding of the Alaska State Trauma Program, trauma education, and the Alaska State Registrar program.
- Expertise in SEARHC trauma protocols and procedures.
- Demonstrated skills in collaborating to develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care and training modalities.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive evaluations of educational activities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in accurate patient data entry and retrieval.
- Ability to verbally communicate findings effectively with the healthcare team.
- Capability to develop training programs adhering to curriculum standards and applicable to all levels of care.
- Aptitude for creating a positive training environment that reinforces evidence-based, family-centered nursing practice.
- Competency in initiating treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on standing orders and ACLS protocols.
- Strong guidance and leadership abilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining relationships with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members.

Licensing Requirements
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state. (Direct hires must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before the start date; agency staff must possess an active Alaska license).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
