Registered Nurse - Cardiac Step-Down

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse specializing in Cardiac Step-Down, Open Heart Recovery, and Telemetry Cardiac. This vital role is based in Zanesville, Ohio, within a dynamic healthcare environment.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to a diverse population, including individuals recovering from heart catheterizations, managing complex cardiac drips, and post-operative open-heart patients. Additionally, the role involves caring for general cardiac and med-surg step-down cases.

This is a 13-week contract assignment, offering an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in a challenging yet rewarding night shift position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care for cardiac step-down patients, including those undergoing heart cath recovery, managing cardiac drips, and post-operative open-heart patients.
  • Manage care for general cardiac and med-surg step-down patients, ensuring adherence to established protocols and care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, meticulously monitoring and documenting patient responses and outcomes.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document all aspects of patient care, assessments, interventions, and evaluations within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure holistic and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Float to other units as needed during periods of low census or staffing crises, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to team support (though not frequently expected).
  • Be prepared to provide care for ventilated patients in rare circumstances, based on evolving patient needs and staffing requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in a Cardiac Step-Down unit.
  • Demonstrated experience with heart cath recovery, cardiac drips, and post-operative open-heart patient care.
  • Proven and recent experience specifically with Open-Heart patient management.
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR system.

  • Ability to provide comprehensive care for post-operative open-heart patients, including wound care and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Familiarity with Med-Surg Step-Down patient care principles and practices.
  • Comfort and ability to provide care for ventilated patients in rare circumstances.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Shift Details
  • Shift Type: Night Shift (NOC)
  • Hours: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
  • Days per Week: 3 (totaling 36 hours per week)
  • Weekend Rotation: Typically every 3rd weekend, subject to change based on census and staffing.
  • Holiday Coverage: Required to cover 1 holiday per assignment.
  • Call Requirements: No on-call required; however, the RN may be asked to take a rare call day during times of fluctuating census or staffing needs.
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: 2026-09-21 (Note: This is the only available start date unless you are a returning traveler within 9 months).
Licensing Requirements
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
