Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform rapid and comprehensive assessments of patients presenting to the Emergency Department
- Conduct triage assessments and determine the appropriate priority level based on patient condition
- Identify patients requiring immediate intervention and escalate care promptly
- Monitor vital signs, pain levels, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and other clinical indicators
- Recognize signs of patient deterioration and initiate appropriate emergency interventions
- Administer medications, IV therapies, fluids, and other treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols
- Assist with emergency procedures and interventions as required
- Collaborate with emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Reassess patients regularly and communicate changes in condition to the appropriate clinical team
- Provide patient and family education regarding treatment, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Respond effectively to medical emergencies, rapid responses, and high-acuity situations
- Follow infection prevention, medication safety, HIPAA, and patient safety standards
- Support efficient patient flow while maintaining high standards of emergency nursing care
- Provide compassionate and culturally respectful care to patients and families during stressful situations
Qualifications
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Minimum 1 year of recent Emergency Department and/or Triage nursing experience
- Current BLS Certification required
- Current ACLS Certification required
- PALS Certification preferred or required by facility
- Strong knowledge of emergency nursing, triage principles, patient assessment, and emergency interventions
- Experience caring for adult and pediatric patients preferred
- Strong understanding of emergency medication administration and IV therapy
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Strong commitment to patient safety and quality care
