Registered Nurse - Perioperative Services (Pre-Op, OR, PACU) Job Summary

This role is for a highly skilled Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive perioperative patient care within a dynamic surgical services department in Lamar, Colorado. The facility features three operating suites, a combined Pre-operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) area, and one anesthesia provider.

The successful candidate will function as a primary caregiver, seamlessly transitioning between Pre-operative, Intra-operative (Circulator), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) settings. The surgical case mix includes General, OB/GYN, Ophthalmology (primarily cataract surgery), and Orthopedics, with specialized cases occurring once to twice monthly.

This position requires an adaptable and experienced RN capable of delivering high-quality care across all phases of the surgical patient journey, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care across Pre-operative, Intra-operative (Circulator), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) settings.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and accurately document all aspects of care.
  • Offer emotional support and patient education to surgical patients and their families.
  • Coordinate patient transfers and manage post-operative patient recovery.
  • Circulate surgical cases, ensuring a sterile environment and patient safety.
  • Assist with the processing of instruments and equipment, adhering to central sterile processing guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures, ensuring all pre-operative protocols are followed.
  • Collaborate effectively with other surgical staff members to optimize patient flow and care.
  • Adhere strictly to principles of infection control and departmental policies.
  • Maintain compliance with national standards set by organizations such as IAHCSMM, AORN, ASGE, and ASPAN.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Colorado.
  • Demonstrated experience functioning independently and effectively in Pre-operative, Intra-operative (Circulator), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) settings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in Pre-operative, Intra-operative (Circulator), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) roles.
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
  • Previous scrub experience.
