Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active Illinois license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS Must-Have: Required certifications, general nursing skills, minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, and at least 1 prior travel assignment Description: This position is for a registered nurse in an emergency room setting. The facility operates a level 1 trauma center with 65 private beds and 2 trauma bays. The nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:3-5, which varies based on acuity and department needs. Nurses will encounter a wide variety of patients, from newborns to the elderly, suffering from various complaints, including critically ill patients. Experience in caring for trauma patients is preferred, although travelers may primarily care for them once stabilized. Nurses must be proficient in titrating vasopressor drips and managing cardiac drips, antihypertensive drugs, and more. The department has a minimum of three attending physicians present at all times. There are two charge nurses on each shift and a house supervisor available 24/7. Emergency department techs assist nursing staff, and the ratios for support roles are approximately 1:9. Respiratory therapists are available to assist with ventilators and other equipment, but nurses should be able to troubleshoot these devices. Nurses are expected to interpret and act on rhythms from telemetry monitors. The department has facilities for drawing lab work, with both nurses and techs performing this task. Traveling nurses are typically scheduled according to department needs and are required to work every other weekend. Holiday requirements are based on department needs, and flexibility is encouraged for scheduling requests. There is no call requirement for traveling nurses. Nurses may occasionally float to assist on other units, but this is rare. Scrub colors should be tasteful with only solid-colored shirts worn underneath.
