Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS required Must-Have: Candidates must have required certifications. General nursing skills are essential. Preferably, candidates should have at least 2 years of nursing experience and 1 prior travel assignment. SANE RN experience is preferred. Experience in a teaching hospital is preferred. Description: The Emergency Room handles a wide variety of cases, from minor to critically ill patients. Nurses may care for newborns to elderly patients with a diverse range of complaints. Critically ill patients and those in cardiac arrest are common. Level 1 and 2 trauma patients are managed by a specialized team of nurses. Traveling nurses will care for traumas once stabilized and transferred. Nurses should be proficient in titrating various drips, including vasopressors and cardiac drips. The nurse-to-patient ratio is variable based on acuity and departmental needs, typically ranging from 1:3 to 1:5. There are a minimum of 3 attending physicians present at all times. Charge nurses and a house supervisor are available on each shift. Nurses will work alongside ED techs. Registered Nurses should be capable of interpreting and reacting to cardiac rhythms. There are dedicated clinical staff members for radiology and lab work. Staffing on shifts typically includes two charge nurses who provide additional support during critical situations. The department utilizes various respiratory equipment, and RNs must troubleshoot equipment. Shifts are 12 hours, with specific scheduling including weekends and holiday requirements. There is no call requirement for travelers, but flexibility regarding floating to other units may be needed, although it is rare. Tasteful scrubs in solid colors are acceptable.
