The Emergency Department is a Level 2 Trauma center. Candidates must prefer at least 1-2 previous travel assignments unless they have significant Emergency Department experience and can transition easily with little orientation. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 during shifts. The team includes 2-3 ER Technicians during the day, 4-5 during the evenings, and 2 during the nights. There are Physician Assistants present on the unit. Orientation will include 2 Emergency Department shifts totaling 24 hours and one shift with an Educator lasting 4-6 hours. The dress code is scrubs of any color, and professional appearance is mandatory. Non-skid, closed-toe shoes are required, and clogs must have a heel strap. Jewelry should be professional and minimal, with no facial piercings other than ears. Hair must be neat, with shoulder-length or longer hair pulled back. Facial hair must be neat and trimmed. Nail polish must be in good condition without chips or cracks, and gel or acrylic nails are not permitted. Documentation is done using an electronic health record system. Medication administration is managed through a specific medication system. The patient demographic includes a high elderly population, with common diagnoses of STEMI, stroke, syncope, weakness, trauma, and falls. Specialized equipment includes art-lines in trauma and various infusion pumps. Respiratory support and anesthesia are available 24/7. Transport services are provided outside of the technicians, and Registered Nurses can draw blood when placing IV lines. This environment emphasizes good teamwork and a positive attitude. The average daily census is between 190-200 patients, with a fast turnover of discharged patients. Nurses must be able to critically think and manage a fast-paced environment. Patient experience and nursing excellence are major focuses. Epic experience is a requirement for candidates.
