Job Summary
Join our dedicated nursing team at MVHS-Wynn, an advanced healthcare facility located in Utica, New York. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse for our Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). This 64-bed unit, which includes 15 designated Neuro beds, provides comprehensive care to adult patients (18 years and older) requiring close monitoring and specialized interventions.
The IMCU manages a diverse patient population with common diagnoses such as neurological conditions, cardiac issues (including MI and CV stepdown), trauma, respiratory compromise (e.g., COPD, chronic vents), DKA, sepsis, and post-operative recovery. As an IMCU RN, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a dynamic step-down environment, utilizing advanced clinical skills and specialized equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients (18+) with various intermediate care needs, including neurological, cardiac, trauma, and respiratory conditions.
- Monitor and manage patients with complex conditions such as COPD exacerbations, DKA, sepsis, myocardial infarction, and post-operative complications.
- Utilize and manage specialized equipment including temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, and BiPAP.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including Respiratory Therapists for ventilator management of chronic vent patients.
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including the requirement to float to other units as needed to support patient care demands.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent, acute care experience in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
- Proficiency and experience with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Willingness and ability to float to other units as required by facility needs.
