Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)

Job Summary

Join our dedicated team as an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This 64-bed unit, including 15 designated Neuro beds, provides comprehensive care for adult patients (18 years and older) requiring close monitoring and advanced interventions.

You will be responsible for managing a diverse patient population with complex conditions, including neurological disorders, cardiac issues (MI, CV stepdown), trauma, and respiratory challenges (COPD, DKA, Sepsis, chronic vents, post-operative care). This role requires proficiency with specialized medical equipment and a commitment to high-quality patient outcomes in a dynamic environment where floating to other units may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, high-quality nursing care to adult patients (18+) with a wide range of diagnoses including neurological, cardiac, trauma, and respiratory conditions (e.g., COPD, DKA, Sepsis, MI, CV stepdown, post-op).
  • Monitor, assess, and manage patients utilizing specialized equipment such as temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, BiPAP, and Neptune Vapo.
  • Care for patients with chronic ventilators, collaborating closely with Respiratory Therapy for optimal patient management.
  • Accurately document patient care, assessments, and interventions using the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Float to other units within the facility as needed to support patient care demands.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards, including wearing navy blue scrubs.

Required Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent, acute care experience in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
  • Proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior travel nursing experience.
