Operating Room Registered Nurse

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in Watertown, New York. This role is critical in providing comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients across various specialties within a dynamic operating room environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care during the perioperative phase. This includes maintaining a sterile field, assisting surgeons, monitoring patient vital signs, and ensuring patient safety throughout surgical procedures. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in the Operating Room and Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU) setting.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, identifying clinical, teaching, mental, and spiritual needs.
  • Ensure patient safety by recognizing potential hazards and implementing appropriate interventions, including safe patient handling techniques and the use of patient lifts.
  • Maintain a sterile and safe environment within the OR/ASU, adhering to all aseptic techniques and protocols.
  • Operate and monitor typical clinical equipment and instrumentation utilized in surgical procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • May be required to assume charge nurse duties, demonstrating leadership and organizational skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience in preceptorship, charge nurse roles, or other leadership capacities.

  • Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and perioperative care.
  • Ability to provide high-quality patient care and assess diverse patient needs.
  • Proficiency in recognizing safety issues and implementing safe patient handling practices.

  • Expertise in maintaining an aseptic environment.
  • Lethal dysrhythmia interpretation skills.

Shift Details

  • Shift: 8-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
  • Days per week: 5 days.
  • Rotation: Weekend and holiday rotation required.
  • Call Requirements: On-call required with a 30-minute response time.
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks.
  • Assignment Dates: September 14, 2026, to December 16, 2026.

Licensing Requirements

  • Current New York State (NYS) Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
