First time travelers are not accepted. Travelers will be required to float to Pediatric Emergency Room. Basic EKG interpretation test will be assigned. Critical care RNs will have additional testing. The Emergency Room has 36 treatment areas for adults and 12 treatment areas for pediatrics, along with 8 fast-track pods. There is a separate triage area, staffed by three triage nurses at the start of the day. RNs manage their own ER holds, which are intermixed within the Emergency Room. There are no separate psych/seclusion rooms available. In-house security is present. The Emergency Room sees approximately 325 visits per day. There is a significant pediatric population, accounting for roughly 50% of the patients. The unit handles a variety of cases, including respiratory failure, asthma, abdominal pain, fractures, substance abuse, and some psych holds. The Emergency Room is also a receiving center for STEMI, CVA, burns, and pediatrics. All candidates must possess experience in triage. The staff may include MDs and Midlevels who manage fast track areas. Flexible scheduling is required, including weekends. Travelers are expected to work holidays as assigned. There is no call requirement, but standby may occur during low census, with a 30-minute response time. Scrub color is navy blue for RNs; hoodies or sweatshirts are not permitted. This is an acute care setting that prioritizes high-quality, attentive nursing.
