Description:
The Emergency Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible for providing safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their significant others.
Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
Utilizes the nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards.
Assesses and evaluates patient care needs while applying critical thinking skills in patient care management.
Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care.
Prioritizes all aspects of patient care, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning for post-hospital care.
Educates patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, promotion of health, and prevention of disease.
Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team.
Manages assignments within the Care Delivery Model and demonstrates effective allocation of material resources.
Role models the tenets of Relationship Centered Care through various patient-centered actions.
Considers the patient’s values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care.
Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
Uses evidence-based practices to enhance understanding of patients' perceptions of care.
Initiates service recovery for patients and family members who have concerns.

Supports staff in using evidence-based practices to improve understanding of patients' perceptions of care.

Implements process improvement strategies based on institutional and evidence-based standards.
Engages in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes.

Contributes to quality and safety practices and required compliance measures.
Implements principles of high reliability to provide a safe environment for patients.
Escalates potential safety hazards or gaps from best practice following institutional protocols.
Utilizes institutional information technology for documenting nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Performs charge nurse duties as assigned.
Coordinates with management to ensure supplies are appropriately utilized.
Escalates material or staffing resource deficits to the appropriate management.
Demonstrates patient-focused and cost-effective approaches to patient care.
Documents accurately and thoroughly in compliance with regulatory standards.
Facilitates patient throughput on a shift basis.
