Description:
Unit consists of 15 beds, with a 6 bed fast track area open from 9 AM to 10 PM.
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4, depending on patient acuity.
Electronic medical record system used is Cerner (First Net).
Charge nurse will take a small patient load if necessary.
Nurse aides and a unit secretary are available 24/7.
Tech staff is on duty for 20 hours each day.
Weekend requirement is every other week.
Holidays will be worked into the permanent staff rotation.
Scrub color is navy.
Central monitoring is provided by a technician in the ICU for ER patients.
Ventilators are in use.
A physician is always on site.
Mid-level providers are available from 9 AM to 2 AM.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7.
Pharmacy services are also available 24/7.
Shifts are 12 hours long, with various start times.
Schedules are made 30-45 days in advance.
Floor-specific orientation lasts 2-3 days on the unit.
Common diagnoses include strokes, abdominal pain, orthopedic injuries, and psychiatric conditions.
Approximately 100 patient visits occur each day, including 500-600 pediatric patients per month.
The facility has a cancellation policy allowing up to 4 shifts to be canceled per 13-week assignment.
