This role assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. Care is provided via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. Complete initial assessments upon patient admission. Develop appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. Implement plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modify plans of care based on continuous evaluation. Take responsibility for patient and employee safety. Report and/or correct safety hazards and incidents. Communicate directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Confer with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. Identify own learning needs and take initiative to address them. Fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies. Department-specific functions include executing procedures and theories specific to ED nursing. Perform patient assessments and develop care plans in collaboration with providers, families, and patients. Execute plans of care and nursing interventions. Modify care plans based on ongoing assessments. Ensure patient and staff safety through appropriate nursing interventions. Adhere to safety standards and correct/report safety hazards. Effectively communicate and collaborate with staff, visitors, and families to foster a healthy work environment. Provide feedback to peers to aid in professional development, increase knowledge, and problem-solve. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
