Registered Nurse - Med-Surgical (Critical Access Hospital)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for a Med-Surgical unit within a 24-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Viroqua, Wisconsin. This rural facility provides essential healthcare services to its community.
The successful candidate will deliver comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population, including adult, pediatric, and orthopedic patients. This role requires adaptability and a commitment to high-quality patient outcomes in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to adult, pediatric, and orthopedic patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitor patient vital signs, assess health status, and report changes to the healthcare team.
- Accurately document patient information, care plans, and interventions in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, other nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate care as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of one year of experience in Med-Surgical nursing, including exposure to adult, pediatric, and orthopedic patient populations.
- Ability to work in a Critical Access Hospital setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Orthopedic nursing.
- Experience in Cardiac nursing.
- Experience in Pediatric nursing.
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in medication administration and IV therapy.
- Competence in electronic health record (EHR) documentation, preferably Epic.
- Ability to manage and prioritize care for diverse patient populations (adult, pediatric, orthopedic).
- Knowledge of telemetry monitoring and interpretation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
Shift Details
- Shift Type: Night shifts (NOC)
- Hours: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
- Days per Week: 3 days per week
- Weekend Rotation: 2 out of every 3 weekends
- Contract Length: 12 weeks
