The role involves delivering coordinated nursing care for assigned patients according to established standards and the nursing process.
The RN supervises and directs various levels of nursing staff and coordinates care with other disciplines.
Critical thinking, professional discretion, and independent judgment are essential in this role.
Key responsibilities include collecting relevant data about patient health, analyzing assessment data to determine diagnosis and care issues, and developing a care plan.
The RN implements the plan, coordinates care delivery, and promotes a safe environment.
Evaluating progress toward outcomes and collaborating with the patient, family, and healthcare providers is crucial.
Direct provision of health information to patients, families, and treatment teams is expected.
Participation in discharge planning is essential to ensure continuity of care.
The RN delegates and coordinates duties among healthcare team members as appropriate.
