The RN provides care to patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, and technology. The role involves managing financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is critical to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs. The role requires modifying care plans based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others directly and in private is necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. Identifying personal learning needs and taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions is essential. Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is also required. Unit-specific job functions include executing the plan of care and nursing interventions. The RN modifies the care plan based on continuous assessment.
