Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Evenings Hours per Shift: 11 AM - 11 PM Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS Must-Have: Candidates must have required certifications. General nursing skills are essential. Preferred experience includes at least 2 years of nursing experience and 1 prior travel assignment. SANE RN experience is preferred. Working in a teaching hospital is also preferred. Description: The Emergency Room provides care for patients of all ages and with a wide variety of complaints. Nurses will encounter patients ranging from minor cases to critically ill individuals, including those in cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks. Level 1 and Level 2 trauma patients are cared for by specialized teams in trauma bays. Travelers may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred to other areas but are not usually assigned as primary nurses in the trauma bay. Proficiency in the titration of vasopressor and cardiac drips, as well as antihypertensive medications, is required. The department functions with a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times. Two charge nurses oversee departmental needs and incoming patients. A house supervisor is available 24/7. Emergency techs and ED staff assist in providing care, with a typical ratio of 1 ED tech for every 9 patients. Respiratory therapists assist with various equipment, though RNs need to troubleshoot. Nurses are expected to interpret patient rhythms using Phillips monitors, although monitor techs are available for support. Laboratory samples may be drawn by both nurses and techs. Shifts are typically scheduled as 12-hour blocks, with preference given to time-off requests. Weekend and holiday requirements are based on departmental needs. Floating to assist in other units is rare and primarily occurs in emergencies. There are no specific scrub color requirements, though tasteful and solid colors are expected.
