They assume responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process. They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. They complete an initial assessment upon patient admission. The RN develops an appropriate plan of care. This plan of care is in accordance with unit standards. It is based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. They modify the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety. They report and/or correct safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication is essential, including resolving issues privately when necessary. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. They confer with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. Identifying personal learning needs and taking initiative for solutions is crucial. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Specific to Emergency Department nursing, the RN implements procedures and theories. They perform patient assessments and develop care plans in collaboration with providers, families, and patients. The RN executes the plan of care and nursing interventions. They modify the care plan based on continuous assessment. Responsibility for patient and staff safety through appropriate nursing interventions is essential. Adhering to safety standards and correcting/reporting safety hazards is required. Effective communication and collaboration with staff, visitors, and families are vital.
