Job Summary
Join our dedicated nursing team at MVHS-Wynn, an acute care facility located in Utica, New York. This role is for a Registered Nurse in our 64-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), which includes 15 designated Neuro beds.
The Intermediate Care Unit provides comprehensive care for adult patients (18 years and older) requiring close monitoring and intervention for a variety of complex medical conditions. Patient populations commonly include those with neurological disorders, cardiac conditions (e.g., MI, CV stepdown), trauma, respiratory issues (e.g., COPD, chronic vents), DKA, sepsis, and post-operative care.
As an IMCU RN, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, managing specialized equipment, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to adult patients with diverse and complex medical conditions in an Intermediate Care Unit setting.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement nursing interventions.
- Monitor and manage patients requiring specialized care for neurological, cardiac, respiratory, and post-surgical needs.
- Operate and manage specialized medical equipment, including but not limited to temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, and BiPAP machines.
- Collaborate effectively with Respiratory Therapy for the management of patients on chronic ventilators.
- Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and interventions within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Float to other units within the facility as required by patient census and staffing needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent, acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Experience caring for an adult patient population (18 years and older).
Preferred Qualifications
- Residency within 75 miles of the facility.
Skills & Competencies
- Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac monitoring and interpretation, comprehensive neurological assessment, respiratory assessment and management (including BiPAP and chronic ventilator support in collaboration with RT), post-operative care, medication administration, IV therapy, wound care.
- Equipment Proficiency: Temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, BiPAP, Neptune Vapo.
- Soft Skills: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, excellent verbal and written communication, ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, adaptability to changing patient needs and unit demands, strong organizational and time management skills.

Licensing Requirements
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
