Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
Job Summary
Join our dedicated nursing team at MVHS-Wynn, a leading healthcare facility located in Utica, New York. We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide high-quality care within our 64-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), which includes 15 specialized Neuro beds.
This role involves caring for a diverse adult patient population (18 years and older) presenting with complex medical conditions. Common diagnoses include neurological disorders, cardiac conditions (MI, CV stepdown), trauma, respiratory issues (COPD, chronic vents), DKA, sepsis, and post-operative recovery. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong clinical skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive direct patient care to adult patients within the Intermediate Care Unit.
- Monitor, assess, and manage patients with a wide range of medical conditions, including neurological, cardiac, trauma, and respiratory diagnoses.
- Operate and manage specialized medical equipment such as temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, and BiPAP.
- Collaborate effectively with Respiratory Therapists in the care of chronic ventilator-dependent patients.
- Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and interventions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Float to other units as required by staffing needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
- Proficiency with the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior travel nursing experience.
- Candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility.

- Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac monitoring, neurological assessment, critical thinking, medication administration, wound care, rapid response.
- Equipment: Temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines (A-lines), BiPAP, Neptune Vapo, chronic ventilators.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, patient advocacy, strong organizational skills.

Licensing Requirements
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
