Registered Nurse (RN) - Geropsychiatric

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive nursing care on a Geropsychiatric Unit in Nashua, New Hampshire. This role focuses on delivering specialized care to an elderly patient population experiencing various psychiatric conditions.

The successful candidate will be integral to a multidisciplinary treatment team, responsible for assessing, monitoring, and managing patient conditions within a therapeutic milieu. This includes administering medications, conducting therapies, and actively participating in patient education and group activities to support recovery and well-being.

This position requires a commitment to patient-centered care, meticulous documentation, and collaborative efforts to ensure the highest quality of care and effective discharge planning for all patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute comprehensive nursing care activities for patients on the Geropsychiatric Unit.
  • Assess, monitor, record, and report patient symptoms or changes in condition.
  • Maintain accurate patient reports and medical histories.
  • Perform thorough mental and physical assessments.
  • Administer medication and treatments to patients as per physician orders.
  • Provide assistance to patients with daily activities and observe reactions to care.
  • Manage activities within the therapeutic milieu, including daily groups, patient education, and one-on-one interactions.
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the treatment team to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for each patient upon admission and on an ongoing basis with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Plan, implement, and coordinate nursing care activities.
  • Conduct therapies in accordance with patient diagnoses and needs.
  • Facilitate efficient discharge plans and obtain accurate patient histories at admission.
  • Complete all required documentation relevant to patients in a timely and efficient manner, including admission paperwork, assessments, progress notes, interventions, evaluations, and discharge summaries.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals, and complying with regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma from a 3-year Nursing program.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • One (1) year of previous nursing experience.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to administer medications and treatments accurately.
  • Experience in managing a therapeutic milieu and conducting patient groups/education.
