Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER/MedSurg float type: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS (PALS preferred) Must-Have: Ability to learn EMR Description: ER RN Nights float to Med Surg. Travelers will be required to float to MedSurg when no ER patients are present. MedSurg has been busy, and assistance is appreciated. Previous travel experience is required (minimum of 2 assignments). Ability to learn a less common EMR system is necessary. The unit treats an average of 6-7 patients per day in the Emergency Room. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-4. One ER RN is assigned, and if more than 2 patients arrive, EMS will assist with triage. There are mid-level providers backed by an MD, who is available via telephone. The Emergency Room operates with critical care drips and manages general ER, urgent care, cardiac, and trauma cases. Common diagnoses include farming accidents, boating accidents, construction accidents, falls, myocardial infarction, and strokes. RNs are responsible for drawing labs, EKGs, and ABGs as needed. Charge nurse duties are shared with MedSurg staff. There is no in-house security; emergency services can be contacted. All shifts require bedside reporting, and any private matters should be discussed outside patient rooms. All weekend scheduling will consider weekend-only nurses. Holiday requirements will be observed if holidays fall within the contract period. There is no call or standby requirement. RNs must wear dark-colored scrubs. Weekend rotation includes working every third weekend. Overall orientation will include time for Department training.
