Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour evening and night shifts with the possibility to work day shifts if needed Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Pediatric experience Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience Cerner experience is ideal Description: This position is for the Emergency Room department. The facility serves as an Adult and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center. It includes 38 beds, which are a combination of Emergency and Urgent Care. There are 5 trauma bays and resuscitation rooms available. The emergency room treats an average of 140 to 180 patients daily. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3 in Emergency and 1:6 in Urgent Care. Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, elevated heart rate, headaches, and patients with suicidal ideation. Traveling nurses are expected to triage patients, including those arriving by ambulance. There is no separate area for ER holds; they are intermixed with other patients. The facility has 4 dedicated psychiatric rooms. Security is present in-house 24/7, but not located in the emergency room. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 but not present in the emergency room at all times. The emergency room staff includes ED physicians, mid-levels, and a house supervisor. Patient care techs assist with various tasks including IVs and labs during busy hours. Nurses are responsible for drawing labs and are expected to monitor patients continually. X-ray and CT services are available within the department. Every nurse must wear clean and professional scrubs in any solid color. Every other weekend and holiday work is required. There is no mandatory on-call duty, but standby shifts may occur during periods of low census. Floating to other units is limited, primarily as a patient sitter or for assistance. Nurses will have a three-day orientation, covering computer-based training and unit-specific practices.
