Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day, Evening Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, NRP (Preferred) Must-Have: Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience Driver's license required Description: The position is in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency room. Candidates must have the required certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, and preferably NRP. A refusal to comply with the fingernail policy regarding artificial nails will lead to termination of the contract. A pass/fail exam is conducted during orientation, with a required score of 90% or higher to pass. The emergency room setup includes 20 beds, 5 trauma bays, 10 observation beds, and hallway beds. There is a fast track area with 6 beds and a separate triage area with 3 triage beds. Security is housed in the emergency room and is present 24/7. Nurse-to-patient ratios are as follows: 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in fast track, 1:5 in observation, and 1:1 in ICU/Trauma. Common diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and strokes. All common infusions seen in level 1 trauma emergency rooms are administered. Both ED Physicians and Mid-Levels are staffed in the emergency room. Each shift has a charge nurse overseeing operations. Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters are available during shifts with specific ratios. RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips, as Tele/Monitor Techs are present. Shifts are scheduled between various time slots, and weekend and holiday requirements vary based on departmental needs. The candidate may float to the observation unit and a designated freestanding emergency room at least once a week. Time off requests must be submitted in advance, with a maximum of 7 days approved for the contract duration. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment. Charting is performed using an electronic health records system.
