Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on health problems. The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment. They assist patients in transitioning through healthcare encounters without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on the nursing practice guidelines, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee. The RN role is applicable in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24X7 staffing, including those with on-call staffing. Essential Functions of the Role: Using clinical reasoning, the RN conducts accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards. They identify and prioritize patient and family needs. The RN develops, implements, and evaluates nursing plans of care, modifying plans to meet clinical outcomes. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supporting evidence-based practice changes. They create a compassionate and supportive environment for patients, families, and staff. The RN develops therapeutic relationships with patients and families while maintaining appropriate boundaries. They manage both emotional and physical pain, promoting comfort and healing while preventing unnecessary suffering. The RN recognizes and incorporates patients' unique differences, such as culture and values, into individualized care plans. They preserve and protect patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights while representing patient concerns. The RN facilitates learning for patients, families, and team members, integrating education throughout the continuum of care. They work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement integrated plans of care. The RN utilizes strategies and available resources for problem-solving for patients and staff. They recognize that resources are limited and consider factors related to safety and effectiveness in planning care. The RN improves nursing practice through participation in governance and decision-making processes. They commit to ongoing professional growth through continuing education and involvement in professional organizations. The RN demonstrates commitment to community service. Key Success Factors: Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards and procedures. Understanding laws, rules, and regulations governing nursing care. Familiarity with medical terminology and principles of health promotion and disease prevention. Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
