Description

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Hours per Shift: 36 Hours per Week Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (Preferred: NRP & TNCC) Must-Have: Must be able to work independently and be flexible Description: Department operates at a Level IV Trauma Capacity. Facility receives STEMI and Stroke patients and transfers them via ground transport or air. Typical staffing includes five RNs: three RNs to acute care and two RNs to the emergency room. The unit has 7-10 rooms and is currently under construction. There is a fast-track area with 1-2 rooms, staffed by a mid-level provider. Triage is performed by any ER nurse present, not a dedicated role. There is no separate holding area; all ER holds are intermixed within the emergency room. One room is available for seclusion if needed. Security personnel are onsite from 4 PM to 2 AM. A trained professional response team is accessible during off hours. The ER treats an average of 17-32 patients per day. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-4 depending on patient acuity. High acuity cases require a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. Common diagnoses range from minor ailments to critical conditions such as strokes and STEMIs. It is a small community emergency room sometimes utilized as a clinic or urgent care. Experience in trauma and strong IV skills are required as there is no IV team on site. Respiratory therapists are available during the day but must be managed by RNs during off hours. RNs are expected to perform EKGs, breathing treatments, and ventilator management when necessary. The emergency room operates without a dedicated monitor tech; RNs must identify and respond to telemetry alerts. All labs must be drawn by RNs, though phlebotomy assistance is available. Scheduling is done at the management level with attempts to maintain predictable schedules. Staff may be asked to work weekends and participate in holiday rotations. Travelers may be floated to assist in the acute care area if needed. Scrubs must be professional in appearance, with no specific color requirements. The team is close-knit and supportive of travelers, emphasizing autonomy and teamwork. Communication is key, with a focus on verbal and nurse-initiated orders. Travelers should be adaptable and willing to assist in various roles as needed.
