Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: - Required certifications - General nursing skills - Preferably 2 years of nursing experience and at least 1 prior travel assignment - Experience in a teaching hospital preferred Description: The emergency department comprises 65 beds, all private, with 2 trauma bays. Nurse-patient ratios vary from 1:3 to 1:5 based on acuity or departmental needs. Candidates will care for a wide variety of patients, from newborns to the elderly, with various complaints. Nurses will manage critically ill patients, including those in cardiac arrest and cases of strokes and heart attacks. Nurses may care for Level 1 and Level 2 trauma patients after stabilization. Proficiency in titration of various drips is necessary, including vasopressors and cardiac drips. A minimum of 3 attending physicians are available at all times in the emergency department. Two charge nurses handle departmental needs and do not routinely take patient assignments but may assist in critical situations. Emergency department technicians are available, with a ratio of 1:9. Nurses are expected to interpret rhythms and should be able to recognize life-threatening conditions. Both nurses and techs are responsible for drawing labs, with phlebotomy also involved in specific cases. Shifts consist of 12-hour durations, without rotating day and night schedules. Every other weekend is required, along with holidays based on departmental needs. Floating to assist in other areas is rare and typically does not include travelers. There are no specific scrub color requirements, although tasteful and solid colors are preferred.
