The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and provides direct care collaboratively. They apply appropriate interventions and evaluate patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in using various invasive and non-invasive procedures and treatments for life-threatening and routine emergency situations. They utilize principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety. The ED RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families. They connect with patients and families during triage and identify the initial management of patients, assigning care priorities according to Triage Standards. The role involves establishing rapport, addressing comfort needs, listening carefully, and providing frequent updates. Conducting primary assessments of critical needs and documenting deviations from norms is essential. They correctly identify necessary steps and interventions required, using direct observations and patient interviews for secondary assessments. The ED RN assesses psychosocial needs and documents any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse across all age groups. They re-evaluate patients and respond to changes in condition promptly. Encouraging teamwork and mutual respect among colleagues is vital for achieving the best patient outcomes. They may teach others and delegate tasks within appropriate scopes of practice. The ED RN adheres to infection prevention strategies to protect public safety. They prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures, making referrals for post-emergency care. The RN teaches necessary information for continued care and assesses patient learning styles to ensure understanding. They maintain awareness of the patient's condition throughout the emergency visit, keeping patients and significant others informed. Updates on the care process are communicated effectively throughout the ED stay.
