Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS Must-Have: 2 years of experience Ability to work with first-time travelers Description: Candidates must possess a valid nursing license. Candidates are required to pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 83% before signing the contract. Candidates will be allowed three attempts to pass the exam. Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may lead to termination. There may be opportunities to precept as needed by the unit. The facility treats an average of 70 patients in the emergency room daily. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4, depending on acuity. Patients commonly present with conditions such as abdominal pain, respiratory issues, and cardiac events. There is a pediatric population, including basic trauma cases. Emergency room staff includes a physician available 24/7 and mid-level providers that are staggered throughout busy times. Charge nurses typically do not have a patient assignment. There are 2 patient care technicians per shift. Respiratory therapy is available in the emergency room 24/7 to assist with procedures such as ABGs and ventilator management. Registered nurses are responsible for interpreting their own telemetry strips. Phlebotomy staff draw labs within the facility. Shifts start at various times, accommodating staff preferences. Weekend rotations are typically every other weekend, with holidays integrated into the permanent staff rotation. Floating may occur, with travelers typically being the first to float if needed. Scrub color is navy, with uniform jackets allowed in navy as well. Orientation varies from 1 to 3 shifts based on experience. Registered nurses are not responsible for discussing placement for psychiatric patients, as designated staff handle that process. Candidates are encouraged to extend their assignments when available. The hospital reserves the right to cancel shifts during the assignment period. The charting system used is MEDITECH. The position is in an acute care setting.
