He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families. The RN connects with patients and families during triage to identify initial management and assigns priority of care according to established standards. He/She establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides updates. The RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs, detects, and documents any major deviations from norms within acceptable time frames. He/She assesses psychosocial needs and documents any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse as appropriate.
