We are seeking an experienced Travel Emergency Room RN to join a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center. This 65-bed ED features all-private rooms and two dedicated trauma bays, caring for a diverse patient population ranging from newborns through geriatrics.

 

The ideal candidate will be comfortable caring for critically ill patients, cardiac arrests, strokes, STEMIs, trauma patients, and a wide variety of emergency conditions. Travelers will typically care for stabilized trauma patients after they transition from the trauma bay rather than serving as the primary trauma-bay nurse.

 

Department Details

  • 65-bed Emergency Department
  • All private rooms
  • 2 trauma bays
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3–5, depending on acuity and department needs
  • Minimum of 3 ED attending physicians at all times
  • 2 charge nurses per shift
  • House supervisor available 24/7
  • ED techs available; approximately 1:9 ratio
  • Phillips patient monitors
  • Respiratory Therapy support available
  • CT and X-ray services available within the ED
  • Nurses and ED techs draw labs; phlebotomy assists with some boarder patients

Patient Population & Clinical Experience

 

The ED sees a broad range of patients and diagnoses, including:

  • Critically ill and unstable patients
  • Cardiac arrests
  • Strokes
  • Heart attacks/STEMIs
  • Level 1 and Level 2 trauma
  • Pediatric and newborn patients
  • Geriatric patients
  • Medical and surgical emergencies
  • Patients requiring vasoactive and cardiac medication titration

Common drips: Vasopressors, cardiac drips, antihypertensives, and other critical-care infusions. Nurses must be comfortable with titration and management of vasoactive medications.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS or ENPC
  • TNCC or TNS
  • Prefer 2+ years of nursing experience
  • Prefer at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Strong general emergency nursing skills
  • Ability to recognize and respond to life-threatening cardiac rhythms
  • Comfortable caring for high-acuity and critically ill patients

Preferred:

  • SANE RN experience
  • Experience in a teaching hospital/residency environment
