Job Summary:
Emergency Room (ER) Nursing in a critical access facility involves providing urgent patient care for a diverse range of conditions including traumas, strokes, STEMIs, chest pains, respiratory issues, and infections across adult and pediatric populations. The role requires proficiency in managing high-acuity cases, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, and demonstrating adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Nights shift, 12-hour hours, minimum of 48 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid RN license, BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), minimum of 1 year of ER experience, critical access experience is strongly preferred.
  • Responsibilities: Respond to emergencies including traumas, strokes, STEMIs, chest pains, respiratory diagnoses, lacerations, and pediatric to geriatric care. Manage common drips such as Heparin and Levophed. Read and interpret telemetry strips.
  • Additional Information: Must have excellent teamwork, communication skills, flexibility, ability to work under pressure, and adaptability. The unit operates with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4 in ER and 1:5 in Med-Surg during day shifts, and 1:6 during nights. Each shift has a charge nurse who may take an assignment, and nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters may be present. The facility uses MEDITECH charting system. Floats to ER, Med-Surg, or Swing Bed as needed. Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift. RTO must be requested at least 7 days prior and is restricted to 13-week contract periods. Candidates may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with associated facilities of the organizational group. Self-scheduling permitted with team collaboration. No full-time, part-time, or PRN status with affiliated facilities.
