TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN ED - Emergency Department for a travel nursing job in Downers Grove, Illinois.
Rotate Mid Shift: 10am to 10p, 2p to 2a
UNIT: ER
Beds: 28; 11 hallway, 4 triage rooms
2 years of ER experience. Would prefer Level I Trauma experience but willing to consider those without
Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC; CPI/MOAB preferred
Technology/Equipment:
EMR: EPIC - required
IV pumps: Alaris
Medication dispensing: Pyxis
Monitors: Phillips monitors
Patient Types:
Average visits/day: 120
Sepsis, DKA, MI, stroke, IVDA, ETOH, ortho-trauma
Trauma – all types
Predominantly 65+ with multiple comorbidities
Heavy psych and addiction population
Emergency scale – heavy 2-3’s
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:3-6 (based on acuity)
ER Techs: 1:14 (based on acuity)
Skills required
Trauma experience (trauma cert required), stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, comfortability with vent management, management of critical care drips, TPA administration, conscious sedation, assisting with splinting
Basic nursing knowledge – NGT placement, IV starts, foley placement, wound care
Strong assessment skills, good communication skills, heavy focus on positive patient interaction and positive patient experience
EPIC experience required
Floating: If yes, where? No
Orientation: (facility and unit)

1 shift of unit orientation
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: Could be every weekend, depending on requisition. If not every weekend requisition, will be every 3rd weekend
Holiday Expectations: 50% of holidays in a contract
Approval of RTO: to go through manager
Schedule cycle: Staff do self-scheduling. After schedule is balanced, traveler will be able to see available shifts.
