Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department. Under the direction of the nurse manager, the successful candidate will perform a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities, adhering to the established standards of care within the Emergency Department environment. This role requires a strong ability to work independently while demonstrating exceptional assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Essential Functions
- Conducts assessments and reassessments, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions and patient care plans.
- Delivers patient care that meets established standards of practice, protocols, and policies.
- Honors patient individuality by fostering dignity and positive self-regard during care.
- Conducts patient and family teaching based on identified learning needs and challenges.
- Collaboratively prepares patients and families for discharge, incorporating necessary support systems.
- Delegates and supervises nursing interventions performed by other staff appropriately.
- Prioritizes patient care effectively and seeks assistance when necessary.
- Documents all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses promptly and accurately.
- Provides thorough reports on assigned patients to ensure continuity of care across the healthcare team.
- Promotes a culture of learning, both personally and among colleagues.
- Identifies risks to patient safety and implements strategies to reduce healthcare errors.
- Adds value to ethical caregiving by identifying issues and developing appropriate action plans.
- Administers medications and intravenous therapies safely according to physician orders and protocols.
- Evaluates patient pain levels and reassesses pain management effectiveness, notifying physicians as needed.
- Documents initial assessments upon patient arrival and follows triage protocols.
- Recognizes and addresses potential abuse cases and implements safety plans when necessary.
- Completes mandated reporting for various incidents promptly and accurately.
- Maintains standards for evidence collection and documentation in accordance with policies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of disaster policies and initiates appropriate actions as needed.
- Recognizes and manages patients at risk for violent behavior with suitable interventions.
- Effectively manages the use of restraints when warranted, ensuring compliance with monitoring and documentation standards.
- Displays competency in interpreting and managing critical patient data, including laboratory results and diagnostic tests.
- Takes responsibility for medication reconciliation and related documentation.
- Implements and monitors components of the Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) bundle.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
- 3-5 years of Emergency Department experience preferred.
Minimum Licenses and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts.
- ACLS upon hire (or an active BLS card with AHA ACLS certification obtained within 60 days of hire).
- AHA
