  • Patient Population: Neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
  • Charting: Epic experience preferred
  • Unit Environment: Emergency care for medical, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, psychiatric, pediatric, and orthopedic presentations

Travel Emergency Department RN Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department or emergency room RN experience
  • Active Maryland or Compact Registered Nurse license at the time of submission
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications; AHA certification required for BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • ENPC certification preferred
  • Demonstrated experience caring for patients across the lifespan, including pediatric and geriatric populations
  • Experience with a 1:4 patient ratio preferred
  • Ability to manage emergency conditions including respiratory distress, cardiac events, stroke, STEMI, trauma, psychiatric emergencies, overdose, seizures, and multisystem illness
  • Strong triage, patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and emergency response skills
  • Comfort caring for psychiatric patients, including patients requiring safety precautions or psychiatric holds
  • Flu vaccination is required

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid patient assessments, triage, ongoing reassessments, and evidence-based emergency nursing interventions
  • Provide emergency care for patients presenting with respiratory conditions, chest pain, myocardial infarction, STEMI and non-STEMI, stroke, trauma, fractures, infections, and behavioral health emergencies
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias, respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, and multisystem organ dysfunction
  • Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV therapies, and vasopressors within scope of practice and hospital policy
  • Manage patients requiring oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator support, central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, splints, and other emergency procedures
  • Obtain and interpret 12-lead ECGs, monitor cardiac rhythms, and support stroke and STEMI response processes
  • Initiate and maintain IV access while coordinating diagnostic testing, treatment, and patient disposition
  • Use de-escalation and safety techniques when caring for patients with acute psychosis, suicidal behavior, violent behavior, or other mental and behavioral health conditions
  • Collaborate with providers, respiratory services, IV teams, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, interpretation services, and other members of the healthcare team
  • Stabilize higher-acuity trauma patients and coordinate timely transfer when specialized trauma services are required
  • Deliver compassionate, culturally responsive care to patients and families in a high-volume Emergency Department
