Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department (ER)

Position Overview

Department: Emergency Room (ER)
Shift: 12-hour shifts
EMR: Cerner
Patient Ratio: 4:1
Orientation: Floor-specific orientation provided

Multi-Location Requirement

This position requires the traveler to float between multiple ER satellite locations throughout the area. The Director will try to establish one location as the traveler's primary/home base; however, Laveen may not be the primary location.

Potential work locations include:

  • Goodyear
  • Camelback
  • Mesa
  • Glendale
  • Surprise
  • Laveen

The traveler's schedule will be created in advance, so they will know which location they are expected to report to for each shift.

At the satellite locations, the traveler will be one of only two RNs on staff, making strong ER experience and independent nursing skills especially important.

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • TNCC
  • CPI preferred but not required

Clinical Requirements

  • Travelers must successfully complete a dysrhythmia exam before the start of the assignment.
    • Maximum of 2 attempts
    • Passing the exam is required.
  • A pass/fail SIM Lab is required on the first day of orientation.
  • Strong competency with sterile technique and maintaining a sterile field is essential.

First-Day SIM Lab Testing

Travelers assigned to the applicable campuses will complete required SIM Lab skills on Day 1.

For ED RNs, required skills include:

  • Foley catheter insertion
  • Port-a-cath insertion

The SIM Lab is pass/fail. Maintaining a sterile field is particularly important, and travelers may be removed from the assignment for failure to demonstrate appropriate sterile technique.

Additional training will be provided on:

  • Patient lifts
  • Restraints
  • Wound care

These additional sessions are educational and are intended to familiarize travelers with facility-specific equipment and policies.
