Emergency Room RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Virginia
• At least 2 years of recent Emergency Room or Emergency Department nursing experience
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
• Ability to independently perform a broad range of emergency nursing skills
• Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
• Self-motivated, self-sufficient, and team-oriented approach
• Commitment to patient-centered care and a positive experience for patients and families

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide safe, timely, and compassionate emergency nursing care to patients of all ages
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, monitor conditions, and promptly identify changes in status
• Complete essential Emergency Room nursing skills, including phlebotomy, IV initiation, EKGs, splinting, wound care, and patient transport
• Administer medications and treatments according to established orders, policies, and clinical standards
• Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support effective patient evaluation and treatment
• Prioritize care in a fast-paced emergency department while maintaining accurate documentation in Meditech
• Support patient flow, operational goals, and a positive experience for patients and families
• Float only when needed to a clinically appropriate unit or to provide additional support
