  • Shift Pattern: Every other weekend and major holidays required

Job Requirements

  • Current RN license in Virginia or compact state eligibility
  • Minimum of 1 year of registered nurse (RN) experience required
  • Recent Emergency Department, Emergency Room, or Critical Care experience strongly preferred
  • BLS required
  • ACLS and PALS preferred at hire; must be obtained prior to direct patient care and within 6 months of hire
  • TNCC required
  • CPI De-escalation Training required
  • EPIC charting experience strongly preferred, with proficiency within the last year
  • Copy of nursing diploma required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Ability to pass an EKG exam at orientation

Responsibilities

  • Provide, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care for emergency patients across the lifespan
  • Perform rapid assessments, triage, stabilization, and ongoing reassessment in a high-intensity emergency department environment
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, ED techs, EMS, and the broader interprofessional care team to support timely patient flow and safe outcomes
  • Administer medications safely and in accordance with nursing standards, hospital policies, and established emergency care protocols
  • Care for patients presenting with trauma, stroke symptoms, STEMI, behavioral health needs, pediatric concerns, and other emergent conditions
  • Support crisis intervention, resuscitation efforts, and emergency management activities as needed
  • Use emergency equipment and clinical technology effectively, including monitoring systems, ventilatory support tools, and point-of-care resources
  • Promote patient safety, privacy, and quality improvement while maintaining calm, professional communication under pressure
  • Assist with care coordination and work with outside agencies when necessary to support patient needs
