Travel RN Job Details

  • Location: Richmond, Virginia 23226
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: October 12, 2026
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:30 p.m.–8:00 a.m.
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week; every other weekend and major holiday availability required
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Emergency Department Setting: 30-bed community Emergency Department with 14 fast-track beds and additional hallway capacity as needed
  • Patient Population: Patients of all ages presenting with a wide range of medical complaints; no trauma designation
  • Eligibility: Candidates must reside outside the 50-mile local radius

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the working state or a compact-state license
  • At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience required
  • Recent Emergency Department nursing experience required; critical care experience is a plus
  • Experience with conscious sedation required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • CPI or approved de-escalation training required
  • Copy of nursing diploma required
  • Ability to successfully complete an EKG examination during orientation
  • Electronic health record experience, preferably with Epic, is a plus
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to meet the physical and emotional demands of emergency nursing, including standing, walking, lifting, repositioning patients, and responding effectively during periods of high stress

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments for patients with non-urgent, urgent, and life-threatening conditions.
  • Prioritize and triage patients while adapting quickly to changing clinical needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with professional standards and applicable policies.
  • Provide emergency nursing care across the lifespan, including medical illness, pediatric needs, geriatric care, mental health concerns, women’s health, and injury-related presentations.
  • Support stabilization, resuscitation, crisis intervention, and other life- and limb-saving interventions within the RN scope of practice.
  • Care for patients requiring conscious sedation and monitor responses to treatment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, respiratory therapy, patient care technicians, phlebotomy, emergency technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate care with EMS, pharmacies, transfer services, protective agencies, law enforcement, and other outside resources when appropriate.
  • Serve as a patient safety advocate while protecting patient privacy and applying infection-control precautions.
  • Educate patients and their support resources, assist with coping, and communicate care plans clearly and compassionately.
  • Use emergency department equipment and technology effectively, including infusion pumps, ventilators, automated CPR devices, ultrasound, EKG equipment, and bladder scanners.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, professional development, and a culture of accountability, resilience, and safe patient care.
