Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individual patient care utilizing the nursing process. The RN will direct the activities of co-workers and delegate appropriate tasks in the provision of care, performing all duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for each patient according to the nursing process.
  • Provide quality care based on assessment needs and established plans of care/pathways.
  • Educate patients and their families/significant others throughout the admission and discharge process.
  • Maintain thorough, concise, accurate, and legible documentation of the nursing process/pathways.
  • Notify physicians of relevant observations and changes in patient status.
  • Administer medications and perform treatments accurately and safely.
  • Implement physician orders as documented.
  • Ensure the availability of equipment and supplies for patient care and report any malfunctions.

Physical Demands

This position requires medium work, involving exertion of up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amounts of force often.
