Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team for a 13-week assignment. This role involves providing high-quality care in a fast-paced environment, delivering compassionate and urgent care to patients in need.

Unit Information

Location: Corpus Christi, TX

  • Number of Beds: 16 with 8 hall chairs
  • Staffing: 6-7 staff members per shift
  • Staff Composition:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one mid-shift), 1 unit secretary, 1-2 techs
    • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one mid-shift), 1 unit secretary, 1 tech
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4 for low acuity ESI 4 & 5, may take up to 6 patients
  • Equipment: Cardiac monitors, Baxter IV pumps, vital signs monitors, Tonopen, and other medical devices
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech, with vital signs integrated into the chart

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Compassion, urgency, and teamwork are essential
  • Experience in Level II or Level III trauma settings
  • Certifications: TNCC, ENPC or PALS, ACLS, BLS

Preferred Skills:

  • CEN or TCRN certification
  • Over two years of experience in an emergency department

Responsibilities

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) will perform a variety of patient care tasks, including:

  • Conducting assessments and documenting patient information
  • Administering medications and providing wound care
  • Placing intravenous (IV) lines and conducting urine collections
  • Performing lab draws and caring for patients with ESI levels ranging from 5 to 1

Dress Code

The dress code includes:

  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue preferred
  • Sunday seasonal team spirit: Team jerseys encouraged (e.g., Astro’s, Cowboys)

Unit Guidelines

All team members are required to:

  • Attend mandatory shift huddles at 7 AM and 7 PM unless providing critical care
  • Complete EMTALA training

Awards and Recognition

The unit has achieved notable recognition for:

  • Rising patient satisfaction and employee engagement scores
  • Providing timely care for patients presenting with Stroke, STEMI, Sepsis, and Trauma
